I just saw the last of the Shrek trilogy and I have to say, all three of those movies were made very well, ESPECIALLY the first one. People look so funny in his costumes like the Shrek Adult Costume, Deluxe Shrek Adult, and the Super Deluxe Shrek Adult. All of these costumes look so comfortable yet exactly like the character. It’s also a good costume if your a little bigger and need a costume with extra room. The Shrek costume isn’t the only nice set-up from the movie but also the Deluxe Fiona Adult, Fiona Adult, and the Fiona Wig with Tiara and Ears. You also can’t forget the other main characters in the movie like Donkey Child Costume which goes great with the Donkey Ears and Teeth, the Shrek Puss In Boots Infant/Newborn and of course the Shrek Donkey Infant. This would be a great idea for a group family costume theme!

I had been hearing a lot about this musical called High School Musical by Disney ever since it came out which I think was like 2 years ago. I always think that the made for T.V. movies aren’t going to be as good as the other movies that come out in theatres. Well, I was at the video store that other day and decided to just rent it to see what all the buzz was about. To be really honest, I thought it was a really well made movie for kids. They had such unique characters like the High School Musical Gabriella girl who was a cute actress (but kind of sang like Minnie Mouse). She really was dorbale though. There was also the “bad” girl, High School Musical Sharpay, who I absolutely thought sang better than the Gabriella character. The main star, High School Musical Troy was such a great singer and an incredible dancer. When he was doing the basketball scene in the High School Musical Troy Championship Game costume, I was blown away by the choreography. All the props were also so cool which are all seen in the Girls Yearbook Dress-Up Kit and the High School Musical Yearbook Kit. We even sell the High School Musical Cheerleader costume which also contributed so much to the story. I really recommend this movie to whoever wants to be wowed by new, young talented performers.

Finding mens costumes for my 1920’s setting was not going to be easy or cheap. But thanks to Costume Kingdom I was able to pull it off and stay within my budget. The costume that I purchased the most of was the Black and White Zoot Suit Costume for Adults. Some of the men were heavier than others so thank goodness I was also able to buy the Plus Size Zoot Suit Costume that was also black and white. Since I did like the style of this Zoot Suit I also got the Yellow and Black Zoot Suit for Adults and of course the Plus Size Gold and Black Zoot Suit Costume. I bought about a doze of the Costume Polka Dot Tie accessory to go with all of the costumes. Another costume that I found that worked perfectly was the White Pinstripe Zoot Suit Costume that came with a hat and went perfectly with any of the girl costumes to match. I also bought the Turquoise Pinstripe Zoot Suite Costume just because I thought it would really make my main characters really stand out in their scenes. It also came with a snazzy hat and suspenders! Hopefully my film will be able to go to Sundance this  year!

Last year a few friends and I decided to throw a party where we all dressed like the craziest celebrities out there. I decided to take on the role of Mariah Carey by wearing a long, ridiculous sparkley dress and the Blonde Seduction Wig. One of my friends thought it would be really funny to be Paris Hilton so she was really creative and wore the Super Sexy Queen of Hearts Adult. She left the tiara on which made the costume even funnier. Once the party started, we started seeing so many different outrageous celebrity costumes. These two girls came as the Olson Twins and had on oversized droop dresses with saggy purses, Bangle Bracelets, oversized sun glasses and large cups of Starbucks. They were falling all night because their skinny legs couldn’t support their huge heels.

There were also a suprisingly large amount of guys that dressed up. Two guys came wearing the 60’s Beatles Band Member Wig  and suits which I thought was very awesome since guys barely dress up for anything. They completely looked the part. Other guys came dressed in a Supa’ Freakin Rick James Wig, an Oversized Rock N’ Roll Wig, a Don King Wig, and many more. When everybody was there it seriously felt like we were in a VIP lounge for crazy people. It turned out to be a really fun party that I think everyone should experience.

The other day I had watched the Rocky Horror Picture Show, a musical about two yuppies that get trapped in a insane alien’s sexual escapades. It is a really fun and entertaining movie where the audience is urged to participate by responding to certain things in the movie. For example, at the wedding scene in the beginning the audience is supposed to throw rice at the screen just as the characters are doing in the movie. There are multiple instances throughout the movie where audience participation is encouraged.

I came to work the other day and told this crazy guy Donovan that I thought that movie was very interesting. He told me that he goes to certain theaters once a month and dresses up like all the characters. I thought it was pretty strange. The next day I came to work I was signing in and I saw him in the Frank-N-Furter Adult costume strutting around. It was very funny to see him in costume with the Pearl Choker and his full make up done with the Rocky Horror Make Up Kit. The proceeding day I was counting inventory and I saw him lurking around in the Riff Raff Adult Costume. He even had on the crazy make up and the essential Riff Raff Wig! I thought he couldn’t get any stranger but of course the next day I was waiting for the bathroom and suddenly he walked out wearing the Magenta Adult Costume. His Magenta Wig looked exactly like the one in the movie because it was big and bouncy. I must say it was quite fabulous. We had a nice break during the holidays and I thought Donovan would be over the whole dressing up phase but right when I stepped into the office he was doing the Time Warp dance in the Columbia Adult costume with another employee Micheline, also in a crazy Rocky Horror Picture Show costume.

I must say, Donovan is one unusual character.

I was scrolling through some of the costumes on our site and I began to realize that the key influential factor of the most popular Halloween costumes is movies. I am sure we have all realized this at some point but it just occurred to me how manipulating film exposure really is to our society. Let’s take Spiderman for example. Before the film version of the Spiderman comic came out, the actual costumes of Spiderman were pretty scarce. This past Halloween, since the movie has been released for 5 years, we sell approximately 30 different types of Spiderman costumes; the Spiderman Adult Costume, Deluxe Spiderman Child, and the Spiderman Deluxe Muscle Teen/Adult are just some of them. As Spiderman 3 came out, we became even more equipped with the Black Suited Spiderman Deluxe Teen/Adult, Black-Suited Spiderman Child, and the Venom Muscle Teen/Adult. It is very interesting to think why we want to take on the persona of these characters. Is it that we want to see what it’s like to be behind the Spiderman mask or do we just want to represent the movie that put us on the edge of our seats?

Another very, very influential blockbuster this year was the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. If I think back to all the Halloween parades and trick-or-treating I used to be involved with when I was a child, I do remember a good amount of pirate costumes. But when this movie came out in 2003, thousands of people feel in love with the specific unique characters (especially the dashing Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow). To me, it completely makes sense why people want to wear these costumes that our favorite movies present. We may feel like we are actually that character from the film and experience what it would be like to play that role. We also may just want to look as devenir or cunning as the film itself made that character appear to us. The reasoning behind people dressing as their favorite movie roles is not a specific one, but it definitely shows us how subconsciously we empathize and personally connect with these characters. An extraordinarily well job done by the film crew!

I realized that I didn’t finish saying what my favorite pictures in the contest were yet. I still need to go over the Kids, Scary or Sexy categories! Out of all the categories, I have to say the entries within the Kids section were the most creative. You could absolutely tell that most of their costumes had been hand-made which must took alot of time and I was very impressed! Though all the children were incredibly cute and picture-perfect in this category, there were a couple that automatically caught my eye. First was the How cute am I? picture of a little charming girl dressed up as a pink poodle. I’m not sure if the costume was home-made or not, but it fits her quite well. It looks like the girl version of the Lil’ Pup Dalmation Infant costume that is equally picture perfect. The main reason I think this picture stands out is that the costume compliments the girl and vise versa. Plus her painted nose completes it all!

I am really not a big fan of Horror films or anything remotely scary, but I really admire the costumes that alot of the contestants posted under the Scary category. I was scrollling through the pictures one day, and one costume scared the Ba-Jesus out of me! It was the Scary Gary costume, or should I say make-up, that completely gave me shivers. It looks like a mix between the Killer Clown Mask and the Evil Clown Mask. Because of this guys grave attention to detail with the eye contacts, face make-up, sharp realistic teeth and green wig, he really knocked the ball out of the park.!

Lastly, the catagorey that is definitely that hardest for me to judge is the Sexy section. I think there were alot of beautiful men and women dressed up in wonderful creative costumes that deserve acknowledgment, but the one photo that I thought was the sexiext was the FOOTBALL REF. It looks like the Sexy Referee Halter w/ Skirt and/or the Playboy Racy Referee. I favor this photo for several reasons; (1) she has a natural beauty to her, (2) she is wearing a costume that she put together personally that defines her style and (3) she exudes an obvious confidence which I believe is the key to being classified as sexy.

I really hope you guys take your time to look over all the costumes because they really are magnificent. Again, none of my opinions actually reflect who is going to win the costume contest, I just really wanted to pin-point my favorites and give them their well deserved credit.

Me and my friends went to Burning Man this year and had the time of our lives! We all had crazy costumes that we dressed up in on different nights all week. I wore a Gold Venetian Mask the first night and my friend Danny wore the Silver Venetian Mask. I got a Black Panne Velvet Hooded Cape with mine and Danny wore a Black 74″ Hooded Cape, they looked so awesome! My friend Kelly wore the Blank White Male Mask and decorated it with jewels and paints to what he felt represented his essence. My friend Jessica did the same but she did hers with the Blank White Female Mask, she was really creative and added feathers around the top of it. My friend Sal and Ty are a couple and wanted to wear masks that were similar. So sal wore the Gold Tragedy Mask and Ty wore the Gold Comedy Mask. They painted them and wore them together, which was really awesome to see how each of them interpreted sadness and happiness. I think that we truly captured what the Burning Man Festival was about, dressing up and expressing ourselves through our masks. We were able to wear another face on the outside and still truly represent who we are on the inside.

Last night me and my girl friends got ready to go out last night and we thought we were looking pretty hot. That was until we got to the club. Why do gay men make women’s clothes look better on them than real women? My friends were dancing up a storm and were surrounded by these beautiful women dressed in the Bettie Page Cattail, the Sexy Haunted House Mistress Evil Witch, the Sexy Lady Marie Peach , and many, many more. We didn’t notice until an hour later that they were all guys! They had every accessory possible too like a Bettie Page Wig, Historical White Wig and a Vampiress Wig. Even their make-up completely overtook ours. We were all so taken with their incredible costumes that we completely forgot that we were even dressed up! But even though we were all SO jealous of their gorgeous outfits and never ending legs, we danced and had a fantastic time with them because they honestly made the party so much better!

I love the new creative costumes that manufacturers are coming up with this Halloween! They realize that women aren’t just going to be a few selection costume themes if they want to dress up sexy. On of my favorite new sexy costumes this year is the Robin Hood Sexy Costume or the Robyn the Hood Sexy Costume. I love how the trim of the dress is super cutet and trendy, and how they give you a purse to go with it that’s supposed to be your money bag. Another costume that I like is the Sexy Deviant Housewife Costume. It’s perfect for any Housewife who wants to feel sexy and it kind of reminds me of the popular show Desperate Housewives. I also like how they also have a Plus Size Sexy Deviant Housewife Costume, proving that you don’t have to be under 110 pounds to be sexy. Another one of my absolute new favorites is the Sexy Eve Costume. Not only does it come with a vinyl apple purse for your things, but it also comes with a Snake Boa, adding to the fabulousness of this costume. One costume that definetly caught my eye this year is the Sexy Bettie Page Cattail Costume. You can also buy the Bettie Page Pin Up Girl Wig and Cat of Nine Tails Whip to go perfectly with the costume. I love how the costume markets are really trying to pin point what women think is sexy and also who is sexy in their minds that they want to imitate. It’s going to be alot of fun to see what other new sexy, creative costumes people have found this year.
